Body Mass Index
I want to make sure that people fully understand what BMI is all about.  It’s not a perfect way to measure who obese you are.  There are people who are actually very skinny but have lots of internat fat that this method cannot measure.  It’s a good indicator but not something to live by.  Click if you want more info on Fat and Body Mass Index.

Weight Watchers Points Meals →
I’m not a big fan of Weight Watchers because I feel that most people give up after a few months and often end up being overweight than before.  However there are those who swear by it and feel there is no other means of losing weight.  They have this point system which I feel people can end up obsessing about a bit too much rather than just eating healthily, however the above link will point...

how to become a yoga teacher →
My friend sent me this link the other day because she is thinking of becoming a yoga teacher.  I think that’s great and have even toyed with the idea myself.  Yoga is one of my most enjoyable forms of exercise and feel that it can benefit many people of all ages and abilities.

Hill Walking For Weight Loss
A friend of mine has just come back from doing a lot of walking for two weeks.  It wasn’t quite hill walking but there was a lot of undulating ground shall we say.  Anyhow, after 2 weeks he had lots 5lbs and that’s despite drinking alcohol everyday plus eating bread and pasta.  It just goes to show how important exercise is when you are trying to slim down and get healthy.  People...

What Part of Your Body Do You Want To Change?
I find it funny how people can really hate parts of their bodies and obsess about it. Some people want a flat stomach, others want a big bum so get butt implants. Then there are the flabby bits around the arms. Maybe it’s not a good idea to think too much about one part of the body and instead think more about the whole body and how healthy it is. However I do feel bad for people who...

Free Weights Are Still King →
If your excuse for not exercising is because you can’t afford to buy expensive home gym equipment, then really you should know that some people beleive that free weights are still the best anyway.  Also, these are pretty cheap in comparison so start exercising NOW!

Vary Your Exercising
Do you vary your workout?  Us humans tend to get stuck in a bit of a rut when it comes to life in general.  The same thing can happen with exercising.  You find a particular work out regime that you like and you don’t change it for months.  The problem is that your body gets used to it and your progress and really slow down.  Instead you should look to rotate your regime every other month so that...

Muscle Weighs More Than Fat
Don’t forget that muscle weighs more than fat so if you are trying to lose weight you should note that you might not lose as much as you expect.  The best way to gauge your progress is to look at your waist measurements or even look to see about choosing a method of measuring you body fat such as using callipers or special weighing scales.  A lot of people stress out when they see the pounds not...

Nutrition and Exercise
Nutrition whilst exercising should also not be ignored.  There’s no point in doing loads of exercising if you are not giving your body the nutrients it needs to repair itself.  When you work out your muscles, they are broken down and then rebuild stronger.  In order to do this they need protein which consist of amino acids.  So if you are doing a lot of exercise taking a protein drink before and...

Pilates Performer
We bought our Pilates Perfomer some years ago and although I love it, there are some things that QVC didn’t really mention.  For instance, they said it was an ideal form of exercise for the elderly.  This is great if that elderly person happens to have a strong son to move the machine up the stairs to wherever it is the Performer will be used.  But if the elderly person is on their own they will...

Swiss Ball
The Swiss ball is a truly amazing product for exercising but be very careful if you are not all that fit.  When I first joined the gym I did a 1 hour Swiss ball class.  OMG, that is not an experience I would want to repeat in a hurry.  The problem is that you really use the muscles in your stomach and if you aren’t used to using them you will probably feel like I did.  Afterwards I felt a...

Barbells
I’m not a fan of barbells.  I really don’t like them all that much I have to say.  I used them once for doing squats and found that the bar just dug into my shoulders which was not at all comfortable.  I also find they are not good for making both sides of your body equally strong.  For instance, if you are right-handed you will find that your right arm is stronger than your left.  But if you do a...

Elliptical Trainers
At first I really didn’t like elliptical trainers.  I didn’t see the point in them and felt they weren’t as good as exercise bikes.  However as I got used to them I really have gotten quite addicted.  If you go “backwards” on them you can get a really solid workout on your legs.  Wow, it’s very tiring.  The only thing I felt I didn’t like was the fact that...

Dumbbells
Why are they called dumbbells?  I’ve always wondered that.  Anyhow I really love to use them.  They are so great because you can do so many exersises with them.  For instance you can do bicep curls, squats and kickbacks.  I don’t think that there’s a single group of muscles in your body that can’t be exercised by using them.  If you don’t have much space in your home...
